Ok put your money where your mouth is BH.
Your Mr Hughes what trade would you do for stevens.
I'll look at it and reply, be realistic!!
There are such a ridiculous amount of combinations and permutations that make this an exercise in futility, and I'm pretty certain Mr Hughes knows a lot more about 'what is realistic' than I do.
And I'm no Mojo when it comes to what may/should be around at different draft areas.
To keep you interested in playing with Deano and I in this thread, off the top of my head I'd consider...
Rivers and Melbourne's 2nd rounder, after pushing for their first and unless Neale goes mental, not getting it.
Getting collingwood's 1st rounder and a young ruck prospect via a 3 way from another club (collingwood have no one that interests me, but a tarrant off to SA and a young ruck prospect like Meeson for example might be possible)
Gilbee and a 2nd rounder from the Bullies
or perhaps most likely
Stevens to North for their 1st rounder, Wells, Swallow and Harris (hey, it's north)
So look, these are just to keep you amused for a while. I have no idea exactly how different clubs value their players, or where their football departments perceive their biggest deficiences. I'm one of KK's keyboard warriors.
But I'll be buggered if I won't entertain ways to get us to the top of a ladder in 8 years rather than remain consistently between rungs 6 and 12 for the next 15.
This goes for other players too. Stevens is just one that I really think can drum up interest from clubs - particularly those looking for more midfield rotations to have a crack at a flag in the next 2-4 years. That is definitely not our timeframe.
We can't lose by seeing what other clubs are prepared to give. He's contracted, of some value, and if we don't like the deal
we don't have to do it. To flatly say he is a good player and you don't trade good players is one of the many reasons we're lagging behind. It's head in the sand stuff.
I have a stationwagon.
If someone needs a new stationwagon desperately and offers me a sportscar for it, because they can't fit a child seat in the back of it - and I like the sportscar - why wouldn't I consider it? Or do I just say "I have a good car. Bugger off".
I get what i want, and he gets what he wants. That's what trades are about, and you back yourself to get that bit extra out of it.
