Trade week 2006 will be remembered as Carlton's "line in the sand".

We no longer cop shit from player managers the likes of Allison and McConville. The ghosts of Matthew Allan and Aaron Hamill style contract negotiation have been exorcised.

I have enjoyed the events of the last few days as much as I have enjoyed any victory over the past four years.

My confidence in the direction of the grand ship Carlton has been raised a few notches. Let's now sort out the board, draft Gibbs and push forward for a competitive unit in 2007.

So one day after the trade period he re-signs. What happened to the "fresh start" he was after and why all the fuss, when supposedly it wasn't the money or the coach?

Perhaps if he hadn't done that we might have been able to use the trade period to sign players from other clubs and improve our list rather than have to spend the entire time forcing our own players into staying.

Brets position may never have been as extreme as what his manager was articulaing in the media. But even if it was, they gambled, they lost, and they're smart enough to not chase their losses by dragging this out futher. Good for them.

Also, great to see the CFC website keeping supporters up to date with everything - been lacking a bit but they seem to be making a real effort to keep us informed (even if we knew beforehand)!

I'd suggest you get over the uglinesss of trade week, and the argie bargie that goes with it, and give thanks that it's 51 weeks until the next one.

I'm happy that T-bird has re-signed, and that we held firm.

Why question all of these things i really dont have any issue with t-bird or Russell

Campo i was happy to see the back of and seeing how he performed for the Bombers looks to be a poor investment lol even if it was free ....

As for T-Bird and Russell these players havnt done much wrong they both may have some issues but if the Club wasnt such a mess from the board to the coaching panel both T-Bird and Russell would have been signed up and happy

T-bird ... we offered his a pretty average deal didnt properly organise our dealings with him .. we opened the door for whorethorn to come in waving the Cheque book ... how hard would it have been to try a pursuade T-Bird to go You play for a club thats a mess with a shakey coaching panel ... you been in a loosing team they have offered you a crappy contract dont think much of your worth so come to Whorethorn we are on the up good talented kids and gonna give you a $mill over 3 years.

Can you blame him so i dont have any issues as to why T-bird looked at going ... finally we have come to the party and should be thankful that Rergardless of why or what T-Bird is staying ..

Russell - sure its a mixture of being homesick and also i dont think he has been preperly treated and could have been much better handled ... still think he will blossum and hopefully gains more confidence from the coaching panel so he can make a step up next year if we manage to keep him. He is just a case of being desenchated in how he has been treated ad throw in Homesickness and again Port hovering ....

Let this be a lesson for CFC.. fix up your your issues and get some confidence and stability in the club and we wont have these issues in the future.
And any changes that occur between now and the start of 2007 make sure we get them right regardless of what is done...

Fantastic news, and as people have said, let's use this momentum to move forward. We need to make sure we look at why Thornton wanted to leave and address these issues, but great news none the less.

All teams and people face adversity in life, it is how you deal with it that determines what kind of person / club you are. This week we really showed something after some less than optimum performances.

Board should be overseeing the commercial side and having the role of governance, not meddling in football issues like draft picks. If they want to be in management, quit the board and get a job at the club. Just shows how inept the Board is if they are pressuring the football dept in that way. leave the recruiting to the recruiters, the mangement to the CEO and coaching to the MC.
