i can understand that, but Walker was in a better position to spoil and should have. He was to worried about his own opponent.
he impeded on T-Bird stopping him from having any chance.
You can't have it both ways. You want Walker to spoil but not get in the way? Read what you are saying!
Look I get what you are saying but if you have played the game you would know that apart from taking an uncontested mark with no opponent the easiest mark is 3rd man up. He was on a hiding to nothing. Yes he could have made a better effort but he saw Brown late after trying to get front position on Aker.
The simple fact is Thornton SHOULD have been on Brown and SHOULD NOT have given a spray to Walker when it was his fault!
played the game for years - anyone that understand the game knows that sometimes it is better for you to leave your man and help your teamamte
Its a two folded problem. IMO i thought T-Bird thought that with Walker in a better position he would punch the ball and T-Bird would pull out and stop aker from doing something, but when it was clear that Walker wasnt going to do it T-Bird had to go in.
Mind you Brown came from the side of walker so i can understand you position, but maybe if he wasnt so aware of aker (which is a good thing) he would of attacked the ball first.
Its simple really, walker was in the better position to spoil or even take the mark, but he was too focused on akermanis.
Im not bagging Walker at all - just hope he will learn from it as he did during the night. He started on the wrong side of aker at the beginning of the game, but by games end he was goal side - thats great, he is learning during the game and that is all i and anyone can really ask of him.
The same thing goes for Teague IMO - you dont always have to take the mark to help your team mates. Yes its good when he backs himself in and goes against the flow of play to take a mark, but sometimes it impededs on your teammates and can be less effecitve.
they just have to learn to know when to go and when not to go - and as kids i dont expect them to know everything straight away.
