Lance did a fantastic job on Tredrea after he'd given Kouta an awful shellacking.
Yes, Lance could get exposed on the lead if Port's midfield gets on top but last time, when our midfield was competitive, Lance acquitted himself superbly in the one on one contests against Tredrea. Lance's game on Tredrea almost won us the game that night. Now according to mainstream opinion, Warren Tredrea is close to the best footballer in the league and Lance played on him in a way that few, if any key defenders in the league are capable of. Perhaps Tredrea should be traded for a speculative draft pick in a draft with no stand out key position players. After all, it seems that a team's best key position player is expendable.
It was also interesting watching Lance beat Matthew Pavlich in a number of one on one contests against Freo 2 weeks ago, when they were directly opposed in the last quarter. Is Pavlich over-rated or is it possible that Lance is a very good footballer and the only bloke at Carlton who can come close to competing with players like that ?
Maybe Freo should trade Pavlich for a speculative draft pick in a draft with possibly no key position players. Key position players, who needs 'em anyway ? I bet Fitzroy were glad they got rid of Alastair Lynch and Paul Roos because they were compensated with access to the best young players in the country.
So, what did happen to Fitzroy after they got rid of those over-rated key position players and replaced them with compensatory draft picks ?
Hoooraaay!! great to hear someone who looks realistically at a situation rather than seeing only what they want to. Lance has saved our arse on numerous occasions this year playing whatever role you like - sweeper, loose man, super model, pilot - I don't care, but he's done the job.
He's kicked 4 against Essendon*, 2 match winners against Hawks and numerous attacking and defending roles that have salvaged some pride for the blues.
As a 6ft 3 he played on 6ft7 in defence and held his own on Sunday - oh yeah, let's get a skinny kid that might work out in 4 years, Pffft.
Okay, if we trade Lance, we need to target a 6ft4 CHB who is at least 21yo. Other than that we need to keep the big fella.
